Standbuy is cancer fundraising. Because cancer should not metastasize to your wallet, and cancer websites should not be ugly.

Sashka Rothchild, Founder

My name is Sashka and I am the founder of Standbuy. When I was 17, living in Santa Cruz, CA, my mom was diagnosed with brain cancer and passed away 11 months later, 2 weeks before I was supposed to start college.

I spent hours at the hospital, driving to chemo and radiation, cooking, cleaning and helping to manage everything that comes along with having cancer in your family. I remember so clearly how much I wanted to just be able to help her get better instead of worrying about the logistics.

As the CEO and founder of Standbuy, my goal is to provide a focused, supportive and easy to use platform so that others might find a little more room in their day for healing instead of worrying about financial stress. We are deeply committed to doing everything we can to help you connect to your community and to make access to help easy and direct.

Mark Kozlowski, Co-Founder & Creative Director

Standbuy’s Co-Founder is Mark Kozlowski. With more than a decade of experience creating award-winning digital products and experiences for some of the world’s best-known brands, including Nokia, Rip Curl, Samsung and Nike, he brings his passion and influence to Standbuy.

His creative direction will focus on user experience, technology and craft.  Continually pushing Standbuy to build smart human interactions.


Dena Stern, Chief Community Officer

Dena Stern was a content & community specialist before Hurricane Breast Cancer came along to carry her to the land of Oz. She spent her time in treatment creating the blog www.denajulia.com, where she selfied her way through every step of the cancer process.

Her optimistic approach to her treatment can 100% be dedicated to a supportive community who enabled her to take time off from working in order to focus on health and healing, which she was able to fund by successfully running a campaign on Standbuy. Her writing on living with cancer has been featured in Refinery 29, The Frisky, LeanIn and other online publications.


Is this for cancer only?

Yes. Right now, as we start up, we are focusing on fundraisers to support cancer exclusively. In the future we may extend our reach into to broader medical support. If you are looking to raise money for something other than cancer, we are happy to point you in the direction of some sites that might be more suitable.

Can I set up a fundraiser for someone else?

Of course. We do ask that you have explicit consent from the person on whose behalf you will be raising money. For more detailed information you are welcome to read our Terms and Conditions which spells out all the details. We recognize how little time someone has to manage something like this if they are in the middle of treatment and working to get healthy.

Is there a fee?

Yes, there is a small fee that comes with each transaction. There is a total of 7% deducted from each donation. Standbuy receives 4% and Wepay (our payment processor) receives 2.9% + .30 (this is the standard cost across almost all payment processors).

Why the fee?

We apply the fee so that we can focus our time on continuously improving our product and coming up with new, helpful features.

How are funds distributed?

Standbuy uses the popular payment gateway Wepay. At the time of donation the money is split and put into the fundraisers Wepay account (which is really easy to set up). When a fundraiser is ready to withdraw their funds, they simply have to login to Wepay and transfer them to their bank account.

What if a goal is unmet?

All funds will be distributed to the fundraiser no matter the outcome. We arrange a goal to put a limit of time and effort around each fundraising campaign. Establishing a deadline helps people understand a sense of urgency and makes for more effective campaigns.

How many fundraisers can I set up?

We allow a maximum of four fundraisers per year per organizer.
